Day #13 – Making a List

Day #13 – Making a List (for a winning reputation)
“Those who are wise will shine like the bright expanse [of the heavens], and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3
Today’s assignment is a fun one, but it may expand over a few upcoming days. Grab a spiral or journal before we begin.
Remember the verse you memorized a few days ago in 1 Timothy 3:11? One of those characteristics for a deacon wife was “faithful in all things.”
Question: Are you faithful in sharing about Jesus with lost people in your life’s pathway?
Are you constantly on the lookout for opportunities to share how He impacts your life?
As God puts people into your life, are you faithful to invite them to His church with you?
Interestingly, I often hear wives of deacons and ministers moan that most people in their life are Christians. Yes, your best friends should be believers, but wake up! God has placed many people in your life, and He’s called you to shine. Christians are to be in the world (not OF the world), and your activities in life outside the church building must all have a purpose of impacting the world for Christ.
Today’s assignment: You will make a very long, comprehensive list of people in your life who may not know Christ personally.
[If you'd like a form you can print to use, just email me at Jesuslivesindiana@gmail.com and I'll email it to you.]
- Begin with relatives, listing every relative you know who you don’t know for certain has a relationship with Jesus. Do both sides of the family, and don’t leave out your mother-in-law, distant cousins, etc.
- Next list neighbors—at least ten homes nearest yours. If you don’t know names, write their house number until you discover names. God placed you in that apartment building, neighborhood or rural area to shine for him.
- Now list friends, both current and past. Best friends. Friends in your peer groups and parents of your children’s friends.
- List work associates: your boss, your employees, custodial staff, vendors, everyone you pass in your work or school.
- Now list people in organizations and hobbies you participate. For example, if you’re on the softball team or PTO board, list every member. Clubs, schoolmates, Sunday School class members who might know God.
- Now list other people you pass. Your insurance agent, hair stylist, physicians, mayor, neighborhood watch chairman, How about your pharmacist, dry cleaner, computer tech, carpet cleaner, your children’s teachers and coaches, people in your exercise class, lawyer, CPA, clients, postal carrier. Look at your address book, email list, phone contacts.
After you’ve made the list, keep adding to it for the next couple of days. If you pass someone, add them to your list.
Now begin to ask God to give you an opportunity to shine for Him, watching for opportunities to share a word about your great God and making an effort to invite each one to your church and tell them how they can know Christ. Make a check by names as you share and invite them.
Last, over the course of coming months and year, begin a list of those who become a Christ-follower because of your investment of sharing with them. Oh, this is going to be a fun list to make!
People all around you want to know your God. They’re often much more willing to hear about Him than we are to tell them! Don’t let a week of your life pass without sharing Jesus with someone.
And as you faithfully watch for opportunities, God will use you as his witness. You will develop an earned reputation as a soul-winner. Impact eternity! Shine for Him.
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few.” Matthew 9:37 HCSB
